The system is easily described – the topper removes most of the leaf and top stems to leave an upright stem of about 15 to 20cm onto which chemical is applied by the sprayer mounted on the topper. The mulched haulm is directed into the wheeling so as not to interfere with the chemical application or the harvesting operation.
The ideal is to remove all the foliage from the stem to enhance the desiccant’s efficiency, and to leave the rows clear of the debris.
Spray nozzles are fitted either into the hood of the topper, or into spray hoods mounted behind the topper. The system can be used for either potatoes grown in rows or beds.
Ridge runner wheels can be fitted as part of the system and there is an option to fit spray hoods to the mounting arms of the ridge runners.
The sprayer system is a standard sprayer system fitted to the topper to achieve the ‘Flail and Spray’ in one operation.
